President Biden’s Federal Reserve Nominees Sworn In to Board of Governors

Today, two Black Americans nominated by President Biden swore their oath of office to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.

Dr. Philip N. Jefferson took the oath of office as Vice Chair and Dr. Lisa D. Cook was sworn in for her second term as members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Both’s oath were administered by Chair Jerome H. Powell in the press briefing room of the Board’s Martin building.

President Biden nominated Dr. Jefferson and renominated Dr. Cook on May 12, 2023. Dr. Jefferson was confirmed and Dr. Cook was reconfirmed by the United States Senate on September 6, 2023. Dr. Jefferson’s term as Vice Chair ends on September 7, 2027 and their term as Board members ends on January 31, 2036.
