The Los Angeles Urban League and Courvoisier’s Foundation 1828 Co-Host the 2023 Entrepreneurship Awards

GIVING, GRATITUDE, & THE GATHERING SPOT

The Los Angeles Urban League in partnership with Courvoisier granted four local entrepreneurial businesses with monetary grant awards

On November 9th, the Los Angeles Urban League partnered with Courvoisier’s philanthropic platform, Foundation 1828, giving local minority small business owners a chance to compete for a total of $55,000 in grant award money through the Los Angeles Urban League’s Entrepreneurship Center. The event was held at The Gathering Spot in West Adams where four local small business owners presented their ventures to industry experts. As the judges deliberated, there was a panel discussion on the topic “The State of Black Entrepreneurship in LA”.

The event facilitated interaction among local chapter leaders, community partners, Courvoisier representatives and small business entrepreneurs creating an in-person networking experience and educational session.

Urban Chicly’s owner Monet Duke was granted $5,000 and Kelly Williams of the Skinshine Beauty Store was awarded $10,000. Click Kits, a company dedicated to themed packaging kits by Chyra Howlett was granted $15,000 with the ultimate grand prize of $25,000 being awarded to grant recipient Adrian Duncan for his company Duncan Hauling which provides eco-friendly solutions for debris removal and recycling services.

Susan Gibbons, Director of US Marketing for Courvoisier was on site to present the grant awards  while Jamecca Marshall, Vice President of Programs for the LA Urban League represented as the chapter’s Spokesperson The partnership was orchestrated by the National Urban League. 

Maison Courvoisier was founded by Felix Courvoisier in 1828, who created a house that was welcoming to all and believed in supporting the close-knit collective of artisans in its hometown of Jarnac, France. Foundation 1828™ is Courvoisier’s global philanthropic platform to support aspiring entrepreneurs in underserved communities.

Established in 2021, Courvoisier’s platform will aim to provide meaningful financial and educational support that empowers small business owners and entrepreneurs in underserved populations across the globe. Since 2020, Courvoisier has committed $1 million financial support over five years to aid Black and minority small business owners and entrepreneurs in the U.S.

The mission of the Los Angeles Urban League, which is an affiliate of the National Urban League, is to help Black Americans and others in underserved communities achieve their highest true social parity, economic self-reliance, power, and civil rights. The League promotes economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health, and quality of life.
